During a moment of silence in Aretha Franklin’s hometown of Detroit, a rainbow appeared.

Fans filling the stadium for the Detroit Tigers witnessed the spectacle during the moments of her tribute.

The Queen of Soul has deep running roots in Detroit. Her father, CL Franklin, was a preacher and advocate for safe housing and civil rights in the city. His daughters (Carolyn, Erma, and Aretha) performed gospel melodies here.

She performed at the 2006 Super Bowl in Detroit, and in a 2011 interview with the Detroit Free Press, Franklin shared her ongoing love for the city. “I like the camaraderie in Detroit,” she said, “how we’ll rally behind something that’s really worthy and come to each other’s assistance.”
Fittingly, she passed away and will be laid to rest here in her home town.
